Disabled access unlikely

Artarmon’s hope for disabled and easier access at the railway station were dashed at the APA public information meeting on June 27, when transport minister and local state MP Gladys Berejiklian discounted the possibility.

She told the gathering of about 60 residents she would not “play politics” to give preferential treatment to her Artarmon constituents. This was despite media reports lifts are planned for Ku-ring-gai stations Roseville and Killara. Berejiklian said the $20,000 price tag for a lift could not be justified.

Councillor Barry Thompson suggested a less expensive ramp as another option. On a more positive note, Berejiklian discounted any multi-storey development in the airspace above Artarmon Station. She also promised to deal with a replacement of the flame trees, the removal of which has created an eyesore on the west side of the station (see May Gazette)
