Gazette Article

A proposed development (DA-2011/353), for 5 George Place, involving internal fitout of existing office, including additional mezzanine structure, new rooftop platform for satellite dish installation, is interesting. It proposes an Ipstar Broadband Satellite's array of satellite antennae, located in the industrial park near Pacific Hwy and the proposed new antennae pointed east at 30° altitude. I do not have any regulations about electromagnetic radiation requirements and limitations but the developers have included a report showing concentrated beamwidth (1° at max. radiation to 5°, then a sharp fall). If anybody is more familiar with those things, let me know and I will send the report.

A proposed development (DA-2011/432) at 2 Cleland Rd of four new townhouses has a few oddities. The submission was made under the 2005 LEP - not the Draft LEP and the site is about 704sq m, while apartment buildings are only allowed on sites of minimum 1,000 sq m. Although there are eight parking lots in the proposed basement and one disabled parking off Cleland Rd, the proposed disabled parking makes the only visitors parking lot unusable and will force residents to park on the street, which is already quite busy, especially during the week.

A proposed development at 4 Carlotta St (DA-2011/303) (Gazette 55, July 17), actually has another address: 6-10 Clarendon St. The proposal is for a three-storey building with 1.5 underground garage floors. Each of the three floors is proposed for separate childcare centres, accommodating 75, 75 and 60 children, respectively.

The following DAs have been submitted to council and are not expected to have any adverse effect on the general public:

  • (DA-2011/805), 152-156 Hampden Rd: amended plans - demolition of existing dwellings and construction of a residential flat building with 18 units, associated basement parking and associated landscaping.
  • (DA-2011/442), 49 Broughton Rd (no files posted on WCC website): demolition of an existing house and construction of a duplex.
  • (DA-2011/395) 1 Elizabeth St (no files posted on WCC website): minor alterations (doors and windows), no effect on streetscape.
  • (DA-2011/365), 9 Campbell St: use land and part of existing building to alter and add to existing building for self storage use and associated parking, loading servicing. The site is near the corner with Pacific Hwy and has a child care centre west of it and the vacant ABC Site South of it.
  • (DA-2011/350), 355 Pacific Hwy (cnr Whiting St): alterations and additions to existing building in the Artarmon industrial area, change of use to Volkswagen motor showroom (no files posted on WCC website).
  • (DA-2011/343), 389 Pacific Hwy: extension and modification of existing Range Rover /Alto showroom and change to Holden showroom: Located in the industrial part of Artarmon (cnr, Pacific Hwy-Hotham Ave), away from residential properties.
