APA history project takes shape

Some remarkable oral history is starting to emerge as we continue information gathering for the Artarmon history website and we are confident many more stories will be unearthed soon.

The building of the website has started and research is continuing into the ownership of land since the first land grants to European settlers in the late 1790s.

Oral history of past and present residents of Artarmon are continuing to be collected and the APA would welcome further referrals of people who have memories of Artarmon as children and of people who have lived in Artarmon for most of their lives. These oral histories help build a picture of life in Artarmon in days gone by.

We urge you to assist the APA history team with the introductions to people who have had a long association with Artarmon, even if they no longer live here. We also are looking for volunteers to help take down oral histories. Are you interested?

APA would also appreciate copies of photographs - old and recent - of houses, people, activities, etc in Artarmon and copies of invitations, event programs, posters, booklets and photographs of community events such as community balls in the Masonic Hall, which would also assist understanding how life was back in the good old days and today.

The APA at short notice organised more than 20 photographs of Artarmon residents before the 1960s for the Willoughby City Council to use in The Concourse arts space wall mural. Council has used 15 of these photographs in the mural. Thank you to the contributors for sharing their family photographs with the community.

Does anyone remember HL Family & Hans (Aust) Pty Ltd? The sign is on 72 Hampden Rd, above Vinnies

If you can assist the APA, please email history@artarmonprogress.org.au or telephone Adrian on 0401 644 052
